A secret service van carrying former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton smashed into a cement pole in New Jersey last Monday.

Clinton was arriving at a fundraising event for Senator Bob Menendez, the incumbent seeking re-election for one of New Jersey's US Senate seats.

The driver was trying to make a left-hand turn when the vehicle crashed right into the pole.

Clinton did not appear to be harmed as she stepped out of the vehicle following the crash, seen in video footage posted by the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

The van was seen pulling in to the parking garage where the event was held.

Clinton spoke at the fundraiser event for Menendez, who is on the ballot for re-election to his seat in the US Senate, in the upcoming midterm election being held on on November 6.
