Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on BRICS countries to seize the opportunity of the new scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation to open up a second "golden decade" of cooperation.

Xi made the remarks last Friday at an informal meeting commemorating the 10th anniversary of the BRICS summit mechanism in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Xi urged all BRICS nations -- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- to uphold the spirit of the grouping, deepen their strategic partnership, strengthen communication and coordination, play a role in the international community, promote the construction of an open world economy, and safeguard common interests and development space.
