习近平总书记电贺吴敦义当选国民党主席

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, last Saturday congratulated Wu Den-yih for being elected the chairperson of Kuomintang

中共中央总书记习近平于上周六致电吴敦义，祝贺其当选中国国民党主席。

Xi said in his message to Wu that he hoped the two parties would keep in mind the well-being of the compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, and adhere to the 1992 Consensus and firmly oppose "Taiwan independence."

习近平在贺电中表示，希望两党以两岸同胞福祉为念，坚持“九二共识”，坚定反对“台独”。

He added the CPC and KMT should stick to the correct direction for the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations, and strive to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

他还表示，共产党和国民党应把握两岸关系和平发展的正确方向，共同为中华民族伟大复兴而奋斗。

In his reply to Xi's message, Wu expressed gratitude for Xi's congratulations, saying that he expected the two parties to continue to consolidate the 1992 Consensus and promote the institutionalization of peace across the Straits.

吴敦义在复电中对习近平的贺电表示感谢，并称期盼两党持续深化“九二共识”，推动两岸和平制度化。

Wu said he hoped the two parties would carry forward Chinese culture, advance sustainable development of both sides and join each other on the road to a bright future.

吴敦义称，他希望两党能一起弘扬中华文化，促进两岸永续发展，合作走向康庄大道。

Wu was elected as the KMT chairperson last Saturday by garnering more than 52% of all valid votes.

上周六，吴敦义获得了超过52%的有效选票，从而当选中国国民党主席。
